PTPI Reception at the White House – 1969

White House Reception:

During 1969 another effort was made to find a design for a People to People overall structure which would permit all the still active national committees and the Kansas City program to meet together as peers. This was something that both former President Eisenhower and current President Nixon desired. At the 1969 Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees of People to People International, a special consultant, Mr. Paul Bradley, was preparing such a plan. Maybe this was the basis of the request for a reception at the White House, which would present an occasion in which members of all groups could share.

President and Mrs. Nixon received the delegates in the beautiful East Room. Mrs. Eisenhower was also present. Eisenhower medallions, the highest award of People to People International were presented to the astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. and Michael Collins; Ambassador George V. Allen and Frank H. Krusen, M. D.
