People, there is no better investment.

Love what PTPI stands for?  So do we. If you are looking for a place or project to volunteer a little time, you have come to the right team. Together with our partners, we support people looking to volunteer, find a great opportunity to do just that.  Maybe, you would like to develop your own idea or initiative. We can also support you to make that happen.

Do something in your community – you will enjoy it, and your community will be stronger for it. Volunteering is a great way to make friends and see places you may not otherwise get to see. It also provides major support to community development during these complex times.

Volunteering with People to People International in Belgium

Why do people volunteer? – People enjoy volunteering for a number of reasons. Some are keen to learn a new skill; others want to have fun and meet new people; others will have time on their hands and are happy to contribute; and there are people who are devoted to a cause and want to make a difference. We all have skills and possibly small amounts of time to give something back to our communities. Whatever your reason for wanting to volunteer, we are pleased that you have taken this step to get involved.

Why in English? – English is so frequently used in Brussels that it has become almost a “lingua franca” for the foreigners arriving here from all over the world. Our volunteer opportunities will be accessible to you whether you are a native English speaker or come from any other country. This is the reality of Brussels: Italians and Swedes may work together with people from Japan and Belgium to support an organization initially launched by a group of people from Ireland.

There are some organizations where other languages are an advantage, and we will make this clear in the opportunity description.

What are the conditions? – Here we provide a list of things that are important to think about:

We work mostly with organizations where English is the main language of communication. There are other groups covering the Dutch and French-speaking communities.

We are keen to support non-profit organizations, charities and NGOs (local sports clubs, the arts, scouting groups and faith-based organizations for example).

Note that Belgian law is quite intricate in the area of volunteering and we are not able to offer a salary, but can/do agree on expenses where needed.

Respect for all parties involved is very important. Opportunity descriptions will be as complete as possible, partner organizations must treat volunteers with due care and attention and, in turn, volunteers must meet the commitment they have made.

Needed as of May 2022:

Writers.  We have a number of projects and activities that take place each month around our network.  We are in need of people able to spend up to four hours each week, speaking to our network and writing up a few words for us to share in our newsletters and social media.

Data protection leadership.  As an NGO, we and our other community partners have to comply with new legislation from May 2018. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is being used to provide better predictability and protect the rights of citizens in the EU. Are you able to project manage the effort to be GDPR compliant? Our best estimate is that this would need three hours of effort each week across our three main units.

Not living in Belgium? There is always much that needs to be done in many parts of Europe.  We can check with our local chapters and partners to find opportunities for you to volunteer.
